About the Nurse who took the journey...

Dr. Carmichael is a Registered Nurse, Doctor of Metaphysics and Divinity, Interfaith Minister and Ayurvedic Practitioner, as well as the Founder & CEO of the Kalyana Centre, now Kalyana Consulting. She has been practicing in the nursing field for over 30 years. Her background includes psychiatric nursing as well as a 20+ year career in the pharmaceutical research arena where she conducted, monitored, and managed Phase I-IV clinical trials in multiple therapeutic areas. During that time, simultaneous studies in Holistic Health, Metaphysics, Divinity, Hypnosis/Past Life Regression, Reiki, Seven Spiritual Laws of Yoga, Primordial Sound Meditation, and Ayurveda have given her a well-rounded perspective on health and healing and its intimate relationship to spirituality. Ordained an Interfaith Minister in December 2002, she continues to deepen her understanding and experience of these topics as an integrative/holistic and preventive medicine consultant, teacher and transformational nurse coach. She a regular instructor for ATECAM Holistic Nursing lectures that provides CMEs to medical professionals as well as keeping her skills current as an RN Care Manager for Surrey Services in Devon, PA where she helps seniors continue to be active members of the community as well as acting as patient advocate. She was also the Director of Nursing at Supportive Care of New Jersey that provided non-medical home care to people in South Jersey.
She completed the Vedic Mastery program at the Chopra Center in Carlsbad, CA under the inspired direction of Drs. Deepak Chopra and David Simon in 2007 and is a certified Chopra Center instructor of Primordial Sound Meditation, Perfect Health (Ayurveda), and the Seven Spiritual Laws of Yoga. She completed an internship in Ayurvedic Medicine in 2010 in Coimbatore, India and is a graduate of the New Jersey Institute of Ayurveda where she completed her Diploma in Ayurvedic Medicine in 2012.
“Learning and practicing the ancient healing art of Ayurveda can facilitate the creation of unity within ourselves, with each other, the earth, and the universe.” - Dr. Joanna Carmichael, RN, BSN
Her belief in the interconnectedness between physiology, psychology and spirituality and the need for conventional as well as complementary modalities provides a vast array of choices by which the individual can begin their journey into healing.
She has been a guest on radio talk shows, podcasts, local television, and writes and speaks about spirituality as it relates to health and well being in addition to various topics on prevention and complementary medicine. She has hosted her own radio program on www.blogtalkradio.com/kalyana and is working on her first book, Pharma to Dharma; A Nurse's Journey from the Dark Side of Medicine to the Light. She hosted a 5-Day Virtual Summit in April 2021 entitled, "Pharma to Dharma; Unlocking the Truth About the Pharmaceutical Industry, Food and Factory Farms" which will be a continuing series of interviews and programs to educate, inspire and empower healthcare freedom for all while shedding light on the cruelty and abuse that permeates the farm factory industry. Additionally, she was a co-host of the Functional Forum ~ Philadelphia's Main Line, to further align with her vision of changing how healthcare is viewed and delivered.
"We may not think so, but metaphysically, everything we think, say and do, matters, and we are in creation mode 24/7 whether we know it, intend it, or not. And now, more than ever, we must become aware of how our thoughts and intentions create reality as we know it, so we can consciously create the world of peace, harmony, love, and understanding we all want."
Her desire to create a place of beauty, healing and transformation where people can come to experience a variety of modalities in Alternative Medicine resulted from an intention that began before she left the pharmaceutical research industry permanently to start the Kalyana Centre in 2009. Kalyana Centre has now evolved into Kalyana Consulting to expand into a larger platform so she can reach more people. She practices, writes and speaks about the disparity within medicine due to the pharmaceutical and farm animal lobby and the lack of adherence to the laws of nature which subsequently affect health and healing or the lack thereof. Her intention is to bridge the gap between the remarkable advances in modern medicine and the holistic medical community where the focus is on consciousness, longevity, and aging gracefully through the ancient practices of Ayurveda (the amalgamation of art and science), Yoga, and Meditation along with the mindful and minimal use of pharmaceuticals and surgery when necessary.
Pharma to Dharma ~ A Nurse's Journey From the Dark Side of Medicine to the Light, is a book about her journey in the pharmaceutical research arena with the intention to share her direct and personal experience of the mind-body connection while performing and monitoring clinical trials, to hopefully help move humanity from the dark side of medicine to the light.
"Research of innovative medications and technologies in and of themselves are great and necessary advancements to treat acute illness, however, when corruption and greed become the driving force, something is seriously wrong, and sadly, this is where we are." ~ Dr. Joanna Carmichael, RN
Her bigger vision is to start a Holistic B&B and animal sanctuary to educate, advocate and help rescue animals from the atrocity of factory farming and shed light on how it affects people individually, collectively, the planet and even the cosmos. Please visit LOVE FOR ANIMALS to learn more!
“Starting the Kalyana Centre and experiencing its evolution into what I do now, has been a dream come true. My intention to do this at a time where we (including the animals) need healing on all levels is becoming manifest…. I had the vision and the vision continues to have me…”
